Prep Your Face and Body for the Cooler Temperatures

We all know how wonderful it is to bundle up in cozy sweaters, sitting by the fire and sipping on coco, but with the changes in seasons the colder weather can take a toll on your glowing skin. Often without a change in your skin care, dry air can make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable. Your once glowing skin can become dull and lack luster.

So let's protect against the loss of water in our skin as well just taking care of ourselves to feel our best and stay healthy.

I think it is important to remember to keep the intake of water up! Keeping your internal body moisturized is key along with a few other reminders I will list below :)

When our skin begins looking dull, many times it is due to build up of dead skin cells. How can you revitalize your skin? Exfoliation! You want to loosen the dead skin in order to reveal a healthy, brighter complexion. A go to exfoliator is Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste. It polishes the skin with a sugar-and-salt scrub featuring vitamins C and E. This will leave your face baby smooth and rejuvenated.

2. SWITCHING UP SOME PRODUCTS

When skin becomes a little more sensitive, a change in product can make a huge difference.

This may mean increasing your exfoliation to 3 times a week and/or changing facial cleansers and regimens. Often the skin becomes more sensitive due to harsh winds, hot baths, winter clothing and don't forget the sun!

"Changing your skin care treatment with the seasons can help", says David E. Banks, MD, founder and director of the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery in Mount Kisco, N.Y., and author of Beautiful Skin: Every Woman’s Guide to Looking Her Best at Any Age.

One perfect example is the SOOTHE Regimen. These are gentle "go to" products that are great to keep on hand.

3. MOISTURIZING

Don't forget the rest of your body. This includes exfoliation as well as trapping the moisture in.

Try this amazing Body Exfoliator before moisturizing:

After you bathe, make sure to capture the moisture that’s still on your skin! It is best to apply moisturizer while the skin is still drinking it up!

Here is one of my favorite lotions for this season: The ESSENTIAL Daily Body Moisturizer. It is very lightweight, absorbs very quickly and is a must.

ESSENTIALS Daily Body Moisturizer is unlike other moisturizers I have tried. It features RF-Dcell technology which calms cells. The result: the skin is able to retain moisture and remain comfortable when challenged by climate and other environmental aggressors.

An added bonus is that it contains humectants to rehydrate skin and dimethicone to help repair the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Overall, leaving the body effectively moisturized!!!

LIPS!!!

I never forget my pout!!

Cold temperatures mean the start of a battle against dry, cracked lips. The skin in this area is some of the thinnest on the body, and lips have few oil glands to keep them moisturized. This means that cold weather and winter winds can make for an unpleasant smile.

I personally am all about a humidifier, exfoliant and moisture to maintain lips hydration.

Here are my 3 must haves:

A. The ENHANCEMENTS Lip Micro-Dermabrasion:

It isn't waxy. It contains collagen-stimulating peptides to smooth lip texture, lipid molecules for long-term moisturization and dimethicone to protect the delicate moisture barrier. Vitamins A, C and E provide anti-oxidant protection, while shea butter, avocado and sunflower seed oil hydrate and moisturize.

B. The ESSENTIALS Lip Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 25

Because the skin on lips is so thin, this area is highly sensitive and particularly vulnerable to showing signs of dryness and aging. ESSENTIALS goes beyond moisturization to provide protective skincare for the lips. This hydrating lip balm soothes, softens and protects lips from the aging and burning effects of the sun (Yes, even when it is cloudy!!!)

It ontains collagen-stimulating peptides to smooth lip texture and protect the delicate moisture barrier. Vitamins A, C and E provide anti-oxidant protection, while shea butter, avocado and sunflower seed oil hydrate and moisturize!

AND At Nightime:

I feel this is best all year round! It does wonders!!

C. The REDEFINE Lip Renewing Serum

Each REDEFINE Night Renewing Serum capsule contains a potent, proprietary blend of peptides and retinol to visibly improve skin texture and firmness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Retinol improves skin texture. Patented time-release technology increases skin’s receptivity throughout the night while reducing potential irritancy.

Lastly, NEVER forget sunscreen!

Contrary to popular opinion, the Earth is actually the closest to the sun in the winter and the farthest from it in the summer, says Robert Guida, M.D., a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City (source: details.com). The ozone acts like the Earth's sunshield, absorbing harmful UVB rays before they near the ground. Problem is, the layer is at its thinnest in the winter (according to the National Science Foundation Polar Programs UV Monitoring Network).

Happiness to you this season!!!

Ashlyn
